We have been serving customers since 1982.
Selman "Sal" and his family are the proud long-time owners of Sofia's Restaurant located on 71st and Lincoln. Having resided in the West Allis area in 1982, and less than two weeks after marriage to his wife, Sal opened the business at the restaurant's current location. Then called Pizza Chef, the 40-person capacity restaurant served only pizzas and pasta dishes for dinner and carry-out. Sal's history as a baker in Europe during high school inspired his desire to remain in food business and open a restaurant with quality food and service. His recipes are some of the greatest secrets in southeastern Wisconsin.
In 1983, the family's daughter Sofia was born, and the business was renamed Sofia's Restaurant. Eventually, both son and daughter of the family would end up working in their parent's business before heading off to college.
In 1986, Sofia's Restaurant offered breakfast and lunches too, expanding the dish choices to the current menu. In the same year, the restaurant was remodeled to the current state (some remodeling was also done in 2008), with the addition of the bar side and the change of the front door location (the original door was located on the corner of 71st and Lincoln) and increasing capacity from 40 to 99. Breakfast and lunch lasted for 18 years. Around 2000, Sofia's went back to serving only during the dinner hours so Selman could spend more time with his family while his children were still in school and living at home.
The restaurant is still under the family's operation, offering the owner's love for customers, quality fresh food, amiable service, and a comfortable family-dining experience that brings customers coming back again and again to try new dishes served by enjoyable staff. Many come to enjoy Packer or Brewer games at our bar, or to enjoy company in our private room that holds 12 diners for parties, reunions, meetings, birthdays, funeral or wedding receptions, and many other special occasions. The main dining room is also made available upon reservation for larger parties.
